Tremec 5-speed?
« on: January 06, 2021, 15:45:52 »
This 280SL on BaT is listed as having a Tremec 5-speed.  First I've heard about this conversion.  How does the cost / effort equation compare to MB 6-speed or Getrag 5-speed?  Is there a kit to do this?

Is it the Tremec that's throwing you? The Tremec was f/k/a the Borg-Warner and was a popular US sourced standard transmission.
If you bring your car to Bud's they'll put one in for you. No idea of the cost but it can be done.
I believe Ray Hays (former President here) has a Tremec in his car.

I know Tremec as as supplier (I used to work for GM), I had just never seen any reference to it in and amongst other 5-and 6-speed alternatives to the pricey / rare ZF.  How does it compare to the other options in terms of installation effort / refinement / cost?
