Battery Cable Support Bracket
« on: March 16, 2021, 08:34:55 »
I am looking for the spacer sleeve that goes between the battery cable support bracket and the oil pan for my 1970 280SL. The hex head bolt that attaches the bracket to the oil pan is a M8x30 DIN 972. Is there a part number for this sleeve or does anyone know who might sell it?

Thanks!

Not sure which sleeve you have in mind. Do you have a photo? Any of the parts shown here: https://www.sl113.org/forums/index.php?topic=13803.msg93746#msg93746

I think you need this one.
There are 3, but the length are not the same.

I don't think you can find that. You should make it yourself from round steel.

Alfred,

Attached are three photos, one of each bracket. Photo #1 is the far bracket under the A/C compressor and #2 is the center bracket and #3 is the far right one. As you can see in #3 the mechanic that installed my new oil pan several years ago used a bolt as the sleeve/spacer! He must have lost it and "improvised".  The sleeves in #1 and #2 are about 15mm in length. I searched SLS and Authentic classics and could not find them. Also a picture is in your post that you linked to as you scroll down that shows a sleeve in it. Thanks!

Peter,

Thanks for your pics. I noticed that your center bracket is different than mine but looks like it is so that the bracket does not intefere with the crankshaft?

The middle one is just a bracket. The sleeve is a little longer there.

Does anybody know whether the holders are still available, or, at least the rubber grommets? Any part-numbers?
I found a part-number for the Holder as 000 159 0340, a "Bushing" 127 155 0150 (which may be the sleeve in question) but no p/n for the rubber grommet

I bought the rubber grommets MB part number 1085400730 on SLS and they are black. When I put in the part number they came up as a part for the 190SL. Mine were originally black and they fit perfectly. I can't tell if the "bushing" part number is the one or not. I googled with no results. It may be the one though but I found no results.

If memory serves me well, they came as one part from MB.

Everyone,

I was able to locate what I needed https://www.mcmaster.com/92415A866/ and wanted to share with others that may have the same issue. The measurements of this sleeve are almost exact to the dimensions of the sleeve in question. My sleeve was 15mm long, Inner diameter 6.5mm and Outer diameter of 12mm.

Alfred, to your last post, you are correct on the part number of the replacement. I typed in the wrong part in my previous response.

Thanks to all for your responses!!
