5 speed
« on: March 20, 2021, 02:48:59 »
HI, I have a 280sl that I imported from Portugal to the US.  It has a 5 speed manual transmission.  Is there a way to tell if that is original equipment if I do not have the data card?

Thanks

If it is an original 280 5-speed transmission the plate on its left side should identify it as type ZF S5-20, part no. 1025 000 064.

That will tell you that it is or isn’t a ZF gearbox but the only way to see if it is original is to get the data card and firstly see if it was optioned with the five speed gearbox and then see if the serial numbers match.
