I've got a radio code on the DC (data card).  My BST is very tarnished, didn't even know it was B!  My FST (Funnel Shaped Thing) is intact.  Any other owner-created acronyms?

Rodd I thought it was a FSV(vent)T, either way a totally necessary part of every Pagoda.

I can't tell anyone who has it or why, but logic tells me that static is static, whether you are here in the USA or in Europe or Australia.  Radio supression too, knows know international boundaries.

Alright, let's take this discussion up a notch.  My 1966 230SL did not come with a factory installed radio and does not have the BST.  Rather, the selling dealer installed a Blaupunkt AM-FM mono unit and the correct front fender mounted manual antenna prior to delivery to the original owner.  This radio is still in the car and clearly suffers from a lack of suppression, both from the ignition and from the alternator.  There is both a high pitched whine and an ignition popping, each of which is r.p.m. related.  What should I be looking for, in addition to the BST, that the dealer probably didn't include in the installation all those many years ago?

There is no BST on my 250SL, and it does not have a radio. Also the FSVT is not on all 113 cars. When the change was made to the new vent tank (inside the left fender) the vapor vent was routed back to the engine. Again, no reference books with me, so I do not know the change point.

Hello Mike H,
The alternators on the radio equiped cars had a little square black supression device mounted on the back of the alternator. Also the original ignition wire sets had resistors on the spark plug wires at the spark plugs and the distributor.

I think all the parts Joe is referring to were part of a Radio Suppression Kit.  I remember seeing a code for this.  The hood contact (BST) was probably part of this kit.

Option code 533 is "interference suppresion less radio." Does anyone have this on their data card?

No 533 on my data card, which probably confirms the lack of BST and other suppression gear on my car.  Any thoughts on what the M-B part numbers for the missing alternator suppressor and suppression ignition wires might be?  Do I recall correctly reading on one of these forums that the use of resistor plugs is not recommended?

I checked and the data card for my car shows #533.  US version car sold by Stahl Motor Company in Monterey, Ca who fitted the Blaupunkt radio.  And my car has the suppression contact.

I have the 533 on my Data Card.  The dealer installed a Blaupunkt AM-FM-Short Wave radio with a power antenna.  Still works even if, sadly, the BBC hasn't broadcast SW for years.

It lists the suppressors needed throughout the electrical system.

Thanks, Bob!  Now all I need is to get my hands on a copy of the ever elusive BBB!

I took this shot of the back of my alternator.  Can anyone familiar with the noise suppression equipment tell me if it exists here?

Mike,
The thin Brown wire that is seen on the RHS + terminal looks to be going to the suppressor/condensor. (They are the same type of thing as on the distributor but they are treated separately)
It will only have one wire and will earth through its case to the body of the alternator.
