Sometime ago I bought a new MB exhaust system. The exhaust makes a very heavy, too loud and too dark sound that irritates. It is certainly not the original Mercedes Benz W113 ‘60'ties sound.
I have opened the two Mufflers which have been used for 3.000 to 4.000 km.
Middle muffler:
• As you can see in the middle muffler is hardly sound absorbing materials present.
• Next to this it is an absorbing muffler, hardly any “reflection” capabilities, so nearly no low tone damping.
End muffler:
• As you can see the end muffler is not 100% filled with absorbing materials.
• Next to this it is more an absorbing muffler, so no low tone damping.
1) Has someone experience with opening up original MB mufflers, the architecture, the type and amount of absorbing material used?
2) Can we find the reason why these Mufflers are so different from the original ‘60'ties sound?
Thanks Peter
