4sp Manual Box
« on: August 25, 2024, 05:54:23 »
Hello All,

I have worked out that I have a 4sp box from a 220 in my car, as the case is missing two of the 6 bolt holes for the top cover.

Whilst the current gearbox is functional, I’d like to put an original 113 box in my car.

Ideally if any of our Australian members have one it would be beneficial in terms of shipping, I’m not opposed to looking overseas for one as I have a great freight company here I deal with and I have contacts in the UK and US who you could ship it to for it then to be sent to me.

I realise this may be an exercise in futility, but I thought I’d at least ask the question.

Thanks Doug.

Your trans looks like any other 230SL unit. I'm having a hard time seeing your concern.

If you look the top plate middle bolt holes have no bolts in them because there is no corresponding thread holes in the housing.

Also the bell housing is different and doesn’t have the reinforcing that the 113 box has.

The only saving grace is the 1st gear ratio will be lower as going off the part numbers the box is out of a pre ‘62 220 of some sort.

It’s definitely not a 113 box.

OK, I see it now. It works but it's exactly correct.
