Part number on EPC is #111 640 57 71 and is the same for all 220, 250 and 280 models. Mercedes sites show that it is still a good part for $2000. May be able to find a used one in a salvage yard. Might check with Classic Center and see what they have.

BTW, anybody who has these cars and is restoring, really should subscribe to the EPC or Mercedes Xentry parts information site. That is where all these part numbers come from.

Thanks for the help. There's 2 in Germany it works out to be cheaper than to get repro from Poland. I was under the impression that it was discontinued

Commonly replaced sheet metal for these cars can be found so don't just assume that they are NLA. I bought some lower valence panels for my '60 Ponton coupe a couple of years ago. Not sure about a hood though.......

2000 bucks from Merc is not a bad option.

There is some idiot on ebay.de who has lots of "new old stock" parts / panels on for far more than Merc will supply new for.

Not sure if it is helpful but you can also buy just the lower section of this panel as a repro.

Originally i was going to change the lower part, decided to go with the complete end panel. youre correct at 2k its not that bad. i think my car had a a small rear bender at some point and there's bondo on the panel.

Yes, this is a fantastic site.

I had the same issue with my rear panel in that it had been popped before. The sheet metal on either side of the license plate was “oil canning” and I had to shrink the metal to get rid of it. It is a big job replacing the rear panel and it contacts the shell in many places. You want to make sure it is done correctly.

BTW, the 2K price was what is posted on the many Mercedes dealers that sell parts on-line. No guarantee that the price is accurate or that Mercedes still has it. However if it is listed, there is a good chance it is available.

It is available at Mercedes dealers and it is around the price mentioned, just checked.

Here is the link to the article on ebay.de.

https://www.ebay.de/itm/283595331593?hash=item4207995809:g:fOAAAOSwvlVgPiq4

The seller states that he accepts offers. If you find out the price of a brand new part from Mercedes you could make him an offer on this basis i.e. you would take it for a good discount to the Merc price. You have nothing to lose.
