any to tip to descaling the cooling system ?
« on: August 04, 2021, 12:20:07 »
This morning I gave my radiator to make it revised even if it looks good and has no leaks.

A little plate mentions 97 04, meaning from the pro I met this morning, that it has been refurbished in 1997 the 4th month. Since then impossible to know how many kilometers the car did, but I know it wasn't much (<50,000km for sure)

Apparently from the gauge and the short trip I did to the MOT the engine wasn't heating up.

I previously changed the thermostat to figure out that the aluminum housing under the durit was partially eaten by corosion... Additionnaly all the area was totally stuck with scale (see pics).

Cleaning everything wasn't a big deal, I found a topic here, and used clear water with my garden hose to flow it inside the block and the whole coolant system. Refilled it with fresh coolant, topped it, and went to the MOT without any issues.

Now this morning as I shook the radiator I understood there was some more little scale blocks inside. Some fragment fell down on the ground. It's white, sometimes blue / green and friable...

The pro will manage to clean and revise everything, but told me that probably the head and the engine block itself shall still be full of these scale blocks...

Any experiences / tips to help me cleaning this ? I can try to clean again with my garden hose but was wondering adding something to the water to make it more efficient, or aditionnaly some pressure or hot water...

Thanks in advance guys !

I did the back flush, got the radiator and heater matrix reconditioned. (new core) No more overheating.
