Changing fuel pump
« on: April 24, 2005, 05:34:15 »
Last week my  71 pagoda did not want to start. After picking up the car a few weeks before from a fuel injecter  rebuild, tune up and new fuel filter the car never ran better. After checking for spark at the distributer. I tapped the fuel pump a few times and got the car started. What steps are involved in changing the pump and what else should I look at.
Thanks

You have a number of alternatives on the fuel pump i.e.purchase new/used/rebuilt or rebuild it youself. If it is the newer, small style pump, these are much easier to rebuild than the older, large style pump. I've done both.  A major problem in rebuilding either of the pumps is getting them apart. Many well intentioned efforts further destroy the pump especially if most of the screw heads are torqued off in the process of disassembly. Let me know what pump you have and whether you want to give it a try--I'll walk you through it. Do a seach on this topic in this and the other 113 forum and you'll find that this is a very popular topic.
