Help with this number on 280 SL engine
« on: September 21, 2021, 04:11:29 »
Hello all,
There is a number 130 016 08 01 with (0-9.3) above stamped near the spark plugs which in my opinion is not the engine number. What is it please ,and what does it refer to ?
Thank you

I would have thought it is more a casting number. Usually the system does not recognize these as part numbers...

It looks, that this head is from a late 280SL engine. You can check it as a full member in the Technical Manual.

The engine number would be further back on the block itself.  Same side about three inches (75mm) from the rear of the engine.

I did expect some comments about the 9.3 compression ratio - if that's really what is on this head...???

Yes it is on the head, and unfortunately there is no engine number on the block. Only a new plate assuming the original engine number.

It actually should read 9.5. Another cylinder head mystery.
