I have been restoring my 1970 280SL for the last 16 years.  Being a US spec car it was originally equipped with Trasistorized ignition but someone removed it years ago, replacing it with points and an iron distributor.  Over the years I have gradually located all the parts, some of which are quite rare and not inexpensive.  I am particularly proud of my spark plug wire set. Original NOS Beru shielded spark plug ends with Beru branded wire and at the distributor end 2 brand new Beru VESO 1K wire ends.  I found them in Europe years ago.  The other 5 ends have alluded me and I have looked high and low for them...Until today.  On a whim I went on ebay and found a very old take off set of plug wires from a W113 that had the correct distributor ends on them.  My life and my ignition system are complete.

In Gibraltar tomorrow for half of a tank (15000 gallons) then Madiera to hold while things settle.

Great news finding that "last part". I took the easy way out and went with 123 Ignition. I admire your attention to detail and originality!  Looking forward to my "last part" but its still a little ways off.  Lee

I am not normally as detail oriented as I was on my restoration. When I got the chassis back it was really beautifully done and I felt like I owed my friend the respect of finishing it to that level.

 Next is a 1977 VW Beetle Cabriolet I am doing with my Daughter. Since the car cost less than a fender for the SL she can get her feet wet without me worrying about it.

After that hopefully is a long hood 911 if I can find a restorable one that isn’t priced beyond practicality.

It could be done as they lifted the USS Cole after the terrorist attack but unfortunately they can’t provide us with enough power to keep it all running.

I know of one with a blown engine. If I can get the guy to sell it, I will let you know.

Update: the car is a 1974 2.7L and as such the first year of the "short hood" variant. The owner still has not decide if he wants to sell the car in the condition it is right now. it depends on how much a rebuilt of the engine will cost him.
