Dead Muffler
« on: May 16, 2022, 16:00:57 »
My middle muffler just died.  In checking with the Classic Center, it is no longer available from them.  I am looking for sources and experiences.  I see Bud's Benz sells a repro, and there is a Time Valve Manufacturing that builds stainless systems.  Any other known sources?

I am also interested in opinions whether to replace the entire system as long as part is being done?  The rest of the system "seems" good but there may be a cost benefit to doing it all now

Comments?

John,

I put a stainless system on my 230SL when I bought it in Germany in the late 1990s (I don't know what brand it was). Still looks brand new .... I know that it's not cheap to make the switch, but I think it's a classic "one and done" expense. Some don't like the more "aggressive" tone of the stainless systems, but I love it -- bold enough to be fun with the top down, but not annoying on a longer drive with the top up.

I got a Time Valve in 1988 and it has been GREAT ever since!

For my mk3 spitfire I could only find stainless. Put one on the Pagoda around 20 years ago, still perfect. I'd say switch the whole system to stainless, 'one and done'.

Thanks for the replies; I have contracted with Timevalve in Melbourne Fl for a new exhaust system.  They have a three week plus backlog but I'll update the Forum when I receive the system
