I'm going to awaken this year old thread, because I'm replacing the lap belts in my coupe.
When I purchased it in Apr. '92, it had a pair of non-retracting lap belts, there were gray webbing, and pretty bad looking. I replaced them with a pair of lap belts with retractors, and 40cm long female "receivers" on the tunnel. They are the style that had a separate should strap that would have been hung on the B-pillar until needed, and then "unfolded, wrapped around the person, and clipped to the opening on the tongue (male) end of the lap belt. Pardon me if my terminology is incorrect; "seatbelt" is not my first language
l ordered a custom built set from seatbeltplanet.com in Oklahoma, and they arrived today. Attempted to install them, and they simply won't work. The female receiver is clocked wrong, so when it's end is bolted to the top of the tunnel, the female end is laying horizontal. There was no way to get the belt to clip into that, and look/feel/function/fit correctly. Seatbeltplanet says they are premade, and so I can't order them with the ends clocked 90 degrees to each other. They sell a bracket that turns it, but I don't want to make the installation look like that. Also, there's no way to mount the retractor and the end of the lap belt portion, since there's only one hole in the body, without doing some sort of cutting and welding in another plate. They're allowing me to return the $239 set, which is ridiculously kind.
So I'm back to square one.
