Forgotten where they go!
« on: July 31, 2022, 10:52:52 »
Small bit of help needed, I've a couple of bits that I cant just place where they go, took loads of pictures, but just cant place these bits.
From a 280sl RHD.
One is a light weight bracket, bolted one end and the other side looks like a hole for a grommet.
Other is a heavy gauge bracket.
And lastly is a buffer, it was in the bag with the fuel tank mounting nuts and washers, but just not sure where it goes.
Thanks in advance for the help!

try.
1. should be from the engine compartment.
2. stop for the seats
3. could be a holder of the fuel tank.

Replaced my gas tank recently, so I'm familiar with #3. It holds the corner of the gas tank near the fuel pump.

The middle picture looks like the piece that fits in front of the driver's seat for the fire extinguisher.  I may be wrong on what the clip is for, but that is where it is placed. Kind of hard to tell from the photo, but the brighter red is the front of the seat, to the left is one of the seat tracks, below the piece you can see the edge of the floor mat.

Picture attached.

Just a thought:  RHD cars may have longer lengths of something that is a shorter length on a LHD car.  #1 looks like the kind of support bracket that would have a rubber grommet in the larger hole through which a brake line, vacuum or screen washer hose, some wiring, or perhaps a temp gauge capillary tube might pass.

I could stand to be corrected but I used the first bracket to route the RH horn wire. Happy to be shown a better use for it!

Thanks Mike and Ben,
you could be right, the horn area is about the only are I didn't photograph when i was taking it apart, its definite that a grommet is one end the the other is bolted.
Thanks again.

Ben is correct about the bracket, it mounts on the bolt the right horn is fitted with, but it holds the alternator and starter motor feed wires from the main loom down the right chassis rail.

Alternate idea for first photo.  Looks like the bracket that mounts onto the top right brake booster stud and supports the oil pressure capillary tube.

Checked the holder for the oil pressure capillary line, and the bracket in your first photo is not it after all.  Sorry.
