Our Polish friend Pawel
« on: November 05, 2022, 16:35:09 »
Hi All

When I joined this group, I quickly appreciated the trouble Pawel would go to in answering questions about part numbers etc. He was very active on the forum and always had helpful pictures and advice for us all.

I don’t recall seeing a post from him for some time and was wondering if anyone knows if he is Ok ?

Regards
Andrew

I pm’d him a couple of weeks back. He’s fine. Hopefully he won’t mind me summarising (in my own words) what I took away from the chat.

Someone (I don’t know who) made some comments about a post or posts - don’t know if in content or tone-  Pawel had made (in his second language) and so Pawel has (hopefully temporarily) voted with his keyboard

Pawel helps so many of us — very much missed on this forum.

Same with MrFatBoy - he was also incredibly generous with help — and he has disappeared from this forum.

I love his sense of humour most of all  :) I'm not sure if I'm an Aussie with Polish humour or he's Polish with Aussie humour or we are just both slap bang in the middle!!!!

I agree, it’s sad that we lost Pawel. He went out of his way to help others. May be he reads the posts and let’s us know.

As for Mrfatboy, he was at the last Pagodas and beer meeting and seemed to be in good spirits.

I, for one, appreciate all of you and hope you all stay well and keep posting.  I cannot stress too much how much I have learned from everyone here.  If I have ever insulted or do insult someone here, it will be or maybe even already has been, inadvertant.  We all have variable personalities.  I, for example, am 77 years old, get tired easily and am sometimes grumpy.  I remember being able to solve problems creatively and with little effort.  Now, I sometimes can't remember what I had for breakfast and it makes me disagreable to realize that what I once had is slowly going away.
If I ever disappear from the forum, it won't be because I'm pouting, it might be because the battery in my pacemaker died.  While it is still strong, I want to say, "I love you all, and keep posting and cruising."

Well said, Tom.  I couldn't agree more.

(Thread side note:  We have very similar cars, mine is a 1966 Italian 230SL, # 018381 I believe, but with an automatic. My hard top has a dealership sticker from Bergamo, which is near Milan.  Any idea where yours is from?)

I thought Pawel attended PagodaFest in 2019?  He was exceptionally helpful as I was restoring my Pagoda, always with some insight that would clear up my confusion.

There is absolutely nothing we can do to make someone stay but there's little to do that would make them leave. One must always remember that this is the internet and humour and tone is often lost in simple transactions.  :)

Hi Rodd,
I'm sorry to be so late responding to your post.  I missed your question when you posted it and just noticed it as I was going through the thread tonight.
I don't know where my car was originally sold, other than in Italy.  It was bought used by Lucio Catone, a vice president of Magnetti-Marelli in Bologna (probably mispelled).  It actually sounds like I typed Baloney.
Anyway, he imported it to the U.S. when he was tranferred to the Detroit area where I worked.  I worked for Chrysler as Chief Engineer of Fuel Systems and he was assigned to Magnetti-Marelli who was a Chrysler Fuel Systems Supplier before the DaimlerChrysler merger.
I bought the car from him when he was transferred back to Italy in 1987.  I didn't start restoring it until after I retired from DaimlerChrysler in 2001 and moved to Quebec, Canada to bring my wife back to be close to her family.
I finished it (mostly) two days before driving it to Dan Caron's farm in 2019.  If I've gotten anything wrong with this story, it's because my memory is one of the things that isn't as good as it used to be.
