113 610 07 16 cross beam under trunk

hello
while working on the fuel pump on my 66 230 i noticed that the cross support beam under the trunk has corrosion.

i found a replacement at K&K but there is a bracket near the fuel pump end that is not on my car and i am not sure what its for.
i have attached the picture from K&K and 2 from motoring investments.

it looks like maybe the bracket is used as a 4th point to secure the fuel tank?

I have a 1970 280SL and you are right that bracket is as the 4th point used to hold the fuel tank on my car.  I believe your 230SL has a smaller tank than the 280SL so the method to secure the tank may be different. The photos you posted are just what my tank, fuel pump cover and bracket looks like.
