... worst nightmare ...
« on: June 13, 2022, 20:32:27 »
All,

Brief status:

1. Bought a 230sl in May last year @ action
2. Car was a mess
3. Rebuild the engine myself (never done it before)
4. Redid (large part) of wiring (thanks Leo)
5. Rebuild dash
6. And last week I wanted to take out the car for the first(!) test drive
7. and then I noticed a leak under power steering
8. I redid the seals and I thought I was ready for my first drive ... :)

But then I found this spring under my car ...

I thought initially that it was a valve spring, but it looks too short
Then I thought about the clutch
Then about brakes

And now I do not know where it came from.

Do not dare to drive my car ...

Who can help?

Best,

Bart

It looks like part of a valve spring - but beefier. It also looks a bit too big to be a clutch disc spring, but hard to tell. There is no way part of a valve spring could escape from the engine and land on the floor.

It's not a pagoda part that I've ever seen so I'm going to say it's just some random piece that doesn't belong to the car.

All,

Thanks.

Then it could be from my eType which I'm restoring at the same time.

Only there I did nothing on the engine ....

Let's see, I wil ask the eType gang the same thing.

Best,

Bart

Beware of friends who like to play tricks by leaving miscellaneous spare parts in your work area.

Looks similar to the spring on the rear brakes in reply #20 of the posting below.  It could be the spring for the shoe adjuster.

These are the parts of my rear brakes, the springs at the lower left hand side of the first pic do have similarities.

Again something else.

All,

Just a brief update on that Spring I found.

It was the spring that was part of the steering box.

While taking the cap of the steering box, this spring fell out and rolled to the back of the car.

If you do not know it has a spring and you didn't see if fall, you have to write messages like I did in this topic ... ;)

Best,

Bart
