Fiat Dino

I know nothing about these cars, i've never seen one in the flesh in the UK, but in my opinion a beautiful looking car, Ferrari looks for the price of a Fiat, what's not to like

Bob, yes the Dino in any of its forms is another beautiful Ferrari. Ignore the fact that it was branded as a Fiat in most areas.
Today, it's hardly for the price of a Fiat however. Some are commanding in the very high six figures now...

This car is a Fiat. It has the V6 engine based on the Ferrari Dino powerplant which came in a 2.0 and 2.4L version, however, the car would never pass as a Ferrari anywhere in the world.
There is a Ferrari Dino, the 206 and 246, which looks quite different sharing the engine concept with the Fiat and also the Lancia Stratos.

Wheeler Dealers did a (fun) episode on a Fiat Dino.
Where I grew up in the North of Holland a guy had two of these outside the modest apartment building where he lived. As I recall we were quite concerned about the rust bug. They were not particularly impressive looking to us back then. They bear some resemblance to this Audi Coupe of the era:

That has a little bit of Jag D-Type in it.  Fenders with tall wheel arches, low slug doors with a lot of convex curve.

I have a friend who is working on one right now. He pretty much had to make a complete body for the car along with floor pans and rails. I saw it this week after it was painted and it looks fabulous. Only about 1,200 spiders made.

Fiats were never renowned for their longevity, i suspect many of these have perished and were not worth restoring until now

Fiat = Fix it again Tony, or in German = Fehler in allen Teilen. Although I have very fond memories of my very first car, which was a Fiat and the model is now a quite valuable collector item. If I only could have kept it.

Not many cars of the era were tremendously reliable. We like to think our precious Pagoda was something special, but there was a time when it was just an old car, and very costly even then, to repair. Hence, many turned to basket cases. Thankfully we have our group here to preserve them both physically and spiritually! Fiats rusted, so did MGs and there are plenty of Pagodas with rust too. Heck, they all rusted!

But Fiat or Ferrari, they are commanding some prices. A 1968 Fiat Dino Spider sold for $138,500 on 11/7/22at BaT. That's some good money, no?

When the whole thing came about, I remember Enzo being quoted as saying (even though HE was the one who wanted this car for Formula II homologation) "A Ferrari is a 12-Cylinder automobile..." Of course Ferrari themselves started putting V8s in before long...

The name Dino is in honor of Enzo Ferrari’s son , his name was dino and he died at the age of 24 for a serious illness .
