Pagoda Tattoo

I don't know if this is a common instance for new pagoda owners, but as I was filling my tank last evening, I felt what I thought was a scratch from my bumper.  Low and behold, I have a perfect circle burned into my shin :x .  I leaned forward after filling the tank and came in contact with my new chrome exhaust tip, boy did that hurt.  Has anyone else encountered this? I guess I was lucky that I don't have both tattooed. :D

Thom:

I have been able to avoid such branding, more by luck than by plan...take a look at some photos and other cars to see if maybe the tips on your car are sticking out too far...and be sure to wear long, asbestos trousers from now on...

Since I am relatively tall  (6 ft 2) and the car's filler neck is positioned pretty low, I am always stooped over and standing away from the car when filling up, actually a bit uncomfortable. Gas pump nozzles can't be blocked open as in the US, for safety reasons, so I always feel a bit awkward in this position. But better awkward than branded I suppose ...

Funny -although painful- anecdote!  :D

I agree with Richard: maybe your twin chrome exhaust tips are too out. I think they should be just in line with the bumper -because the exhaust system shouldn't work as a bumper!-. You can push and move both chrome tips (they aren't welded to the muffler) until they don't jut out from the bumper... or next time, try to tattoo your other shin... the symmetry is important  ;)

Pushing the tail pipes all the way in can be a problem too. Your bumper will discolor with the smoke over time. This can be clearly seen on light colored cars where even the paint around the exhaust slightly discolors.
