Early steering relay arm fitting question
« on: December 03, 2013, 21:17:31 »
Hi all,

This is a question regarding the early system, with brass bushings. I fitted the relay arm (opposite the steering box) without the locking washer for the top bolt. As a result, the nut comes loose and I'm getting some play in the steering. I have ordered the lock washer. However, I remember the system to be a bit tricky, with the arm bolting into the top nut and the top nut bolting into the bracket. If I remember well, threads are different on both sides of the nut, and it's quite tricky to get the arm bolted the right amount in the nut while having the nut locked on the bracket.

My w/shop manual covers only the later models with the plastic bushings, so I do not have any explanation how to proceed with the earlier version. Could someone tell me the procedure to make sure the arm is bolted enough in the nut while the nut is locked? Are there any tricks?

Thanks!
