Brace or Support bar

I have a bar appox. 11.5 inches long i am having trouble identifying what it supports.  when i removed the engine i thought it was connected to the AC compressor?  My car is a 71 280sl.   thanks for any information..

There is a bar, about that long, painted gray, that was supporting the back of my original AC compressor.   It is pinched with a round hole on one end and a slot on the other end.
