3.27 rear end
« on: April 18, 2023, 20:06:25 »
Hi - am looking to replace my '69 280SL 4.08 rear end with something more compatible with highway cruising, such as 3.27 or 3.69.
Thanks

A lot of people do the 3.27, but if you find a 3.69 first, don't shy away from it.  I have a 3.75 in my 230SL and it's fine.  I don't try to cruise at 85mph.  It's noisy at 70mph, but it's an old car and the character is half the fun.

Table transmission versus speed.(reed 2.27 for 2.25),
Important is the quality of the engine. In good condition 3.27 for a 280SL is no problem.
