Many of us have struggled with a screaming tacho and the best way to get rid of it is to take it out and have it serviced at a specialist. To take it out is time consuming and tricky as there is very tight space.
I have tried the suggestion to disconnect the tacho wire from the engine and add some drops of oil into the tacho wire and keep the loose end high so the oil could flow in, it did help for some time but the screaming came back.
So I decided to try another way, I bought a tiny plastic tube (3,3x2 mm/0,13x0,08”) that could be pushed all the way in to where the tacho wire enter into the tacho, before I entered the tube I dropped a couple of drips of sewing machine oil into the tube and blocked the other end so the oil wouldn’t flow out, when the tube was all the way in i opened the end and blew gently with compressed air to get the oil into the tacho.
So now I have a silent tacho and I hope it stays like that for a long time.
The tube I used is the type used for an old type of hearing aid, bought on Amazon.
