In my repair nightmare this weekend, I decided to lube the chassis. Checking some of the manuals, I was alarmed to see the recommendation of renewing the oil in the fuel injection pump.
I've got a 1971 280SL. In reading the BBB, Haynes Workshop manual, and Chilton Repair manual, I've gotten myself confused. Originally, I thought that the fuel injection pump used the same oil as the engine crank case, and that oil was curculated from the crank case, through the injection pump. Is that not true? ... or do I need to drain and refill the fuel injection pump with motor oil as part of my routine maintenance? Does this thing have an oil filter that should be routinely replaced?
