That sounds about right for a hard top but he never stated which top he has.

With many years of international shipping experience behind me, including that of a very large items, I would suggest you have this hardtop crated.

I have done this repeatedly for large pieces of equipment. Generally, the shipping agents will know who to call for crating, and they can come and pick up the top, take it back to their shop, crate it, and then arrange for the international transport to the USA.

The hardtop is very awkward, and very heavy in the back; it’s not a balanced unit.

Let the professionals handle it.

Short of crating it the easiest way to transport it is on a car!!

Do the tops vary in weight between models ?

Seeing as we have aluminium doors, trunk and bonnet ? it's always seemed a shame to me, the hardtop was not the same.

Would certainly make life a lot easier getting it on and off and better mpg. I know a lot of people rarely use them, if ever, but for those of us that do.

Yes, it would have been nice for the hardtop to have been lighter.

That said, I seem to recall some crash test photos that showed how, when fitted, the hardtop contributed significantly to maintaining to integrity of the passenger compartment "safety cell" on impact.  Perhaps the all-steel construction of the hardtop was a crash performance requirement?

Do remember that the Pagoda was among the very first sports cars to have front and rear "crumple zones" and other pioneering safety features.
