$500K+ for 230SL Restomod
« on: October 09, 2023, 03:22:25 »
Mechatronik will restomod any Mercedes. This one just sold. Modern Mercedes tech in a vintage car.

Who says the 230 does not have the value of the later versions?

According to the listing, Mechatronik lists these for €550,000 (or $580K at today's exchange rate) so it failed to reach that. Good thing too, as, with any new car, it will depreciate a significant % in year 1, assuming the buyer will actually drive it.

I am sure this will appeal to some fringe Pagoda admirers and that helps to float all boats as ultimately we all want more people to be interested and admire W113’s.
The purist will of course be happy with the old original car, in various states, from project to concourse and everything in between. That is the beauty of this car as being 60 years old from first release, there are plenty of variations and that diversity allows for freedom of expression.

I got the chance to drive a mechatronic some 15 years ago.  I think that one was a V6??  Anyway, it was an amazing car, felt just like a new car (of course, it had a modern suspension!).  But, I have an old car because that's what I want, an old car.  These resto-mods are not for me, even when done to such a high standard.  I want the old car experience.

I would love to drive one.
The work is a very high standard.
Not for me , but I think it is pretty cool for someone with no mechanical interests and some bucks. Just turn the key and drive...
It would be interesting to see whet these are worth in 10 years.
Like the old Italian saying... sausage his own !

There are many builders out there who take collector cars/trucks and modify and modernize them. Just about every marque has a company out there that will turn that particular vehicle into a modern marvel...............at quite the price. I bought a new Ford Bronco last year and turned it into a retro "Heritage" model. My neighbor bought a remanufactured 60's Bronco for close to $300K.  Five times what I paid for mine. At a car show last year I talked to someone who owned a Singer Porsche. That car cost over $500K. To me, it's crazy money. I'd rather have an original and spend the saved money on something more practical..............like more cars ;D ;D.

$2,300 Bronco. 1/25 of what you paid for yours, 130th of what he paid for his. What does it all mean?  :D
