Painting the One-Piece Hubcaps
« on: July 14, 2005, 09:11:39 »
Hello Gents,

As we all know, any body and paint shop can paint the hubcaps--the one down the street or someone on the other side of the globe. The issue is the level of and type of masking.

We've seen and talked about this "masking" tool used to aid in the painting.  Obviously in the right hands this can make the painting process considerably shorter by eliminating a good deal of the otherwise hand masking process.

QUESTION:  Does anybody know of any body or restoration house in the USA/Canada that has one of these tools?  I'd like to get a quote on painting the hubcaps.

Michael -- Great idea.  I have an extra set of new hubcaps, just sitting in the box waiting to be painted.  Since our cars are the same color (sig. red) perhaps we could get a quantity discount!

I called Sports Leicht about this.  They quoted me $300.00.  There's a chance your signal red hubcaps may be a little less as it is a more common color than my beige-gray.

Would the demo be hand masking, use of the template (if someone has one); painting, or all of it?

Hello Michael,
It would be nice to do it both ways so everyone could see the difference.
