My W111 has a M127 engine in it. I was told that the original engine overheated and seized. The previous owner replaced it about 30 years ago with a 2.3 SL engine. I took ownership 9 years ago and after a cylinder head refinish following a head gasket leak it became a daily driver. The engine starts cold and hot and runs very well.
I will have to take care of body work such as rusted rocker panels and others which will require to pull the engine out. The “originality, factory correct” character of the car is already gone with the seized M129 engine. Replacing the engine with a M117.960 or 963 as was done by Gael here appears to be a very attractive option. I am aware that the M127 is far more desired and rare than the M117. I am looking for a trade against a rebuilt M117.
I am posting this to gage the interest in such a trade and for any other advice. Attached is the engine ID and if there is interest I can send a couple of clips with engine starting cold and hot and running/driving.
