Body Data Plate Question
« on: October 17, 2023, 01:51:20 »
I have recently pick up a 1967 250SL, but have trouble figuring out the transmission on the data plate. I know the definition of 10 and 12, but it states 20 on the body data plate. Does anybody know what 20 means?

2= Right hand drive
0= Manual

So it is/was a RHD manual transmission. The "1" in 10 and 12 = LHD

Vander,

Thanks for the info. The car has been converted into automatic. Is there a way to tell what type of manual it came as? 4 speed or 5 speed?

Hello, line 1 on the body and paint plates show any the body-assembly related option codes, i would have thought if your car originally came with a 5 speed box, it would show code 230 on line 1

Your plate does not have any body related codes, so seems to have been supplied with a standard manual box

EDIT - Actually, after reading more about this subject, it seems the transmission code may not have been stamped on the body and paint plate, perhaps someone with an original 5 speed car could confirm

Your data card will confirm if you get hold of one

You can obtain data card through Mercedes dealer. You need a proof of ownership.
