indicator stalk removal
« on: December 13, 2023, 20:51:39 »
Hello all, I am hoping someone can help me here, I am about to remove my indicator stalk to send off to be repaired. I am sure I have read on our forum that you can remove the the stalk with the 12 pin connector still attached to the cable on the 280sl but I have searched and searched but can not seem to find it anywhere. I may be having a senior moment who knows. Do I need to remove the plug or not I am wondering. Thanks

Thanks, but unless I am missing something. there is no mention of having to remove or not remove  the 12 pin connector on the 280sl. I have looked on the forum and in the technical manual but just can not find what I am looking for

Hello, there is a note on the link that Rodd provided saying that it is possible to thread the loom and 12 way connector up through the column without disconnecting the wiring, apart from the horn wires, it also explains it on the post below

It would seem to me to be more difficult to feed it back down the column, as you'll be pushing rather than pulling, but no one mentions that it's difficult?  perhaps tie a string to the connector to assist in pulling it back down, but it may not be needed

This is correct, I did it several times.
And reinstalling was also not a problem.

it is correct. I have removed it with the connector. Although on 1 occasion I had a hard time putting it back and did it by removing the back of th plug to get a little extra room.

I removed it today, so much easier than I was expecting, I was  able to leave the plug on. It was quite tight but just enough room. Now off to Sead for repair.
