Spare wheel cover with storage
« on: June 08, 2024, 15:36:29 »
Changed the light bulbs at the rear of my car to LED bulbs to get a better and clearer light for the traffic behind
and I made an observation that I've not done before in the three years I've had my 230SL.
When I open the compartment in the spare wheel cover, I notice a round cutout in the reinforcement and thought that it must be intended to store wheel changer rod, the rod you put in one of the wheel bolt holes when mounting and dismounting the wheels.
I made a try to see if the rod fits and it fit perfectly so now it has got this place instead of in the tool kit.

Yes, it does.

Lug wrench goes to the other pocket, but you must be careful so that it does not stick out too much not to damage trunk lid.

Early cars had a bracket on the rear cross member to hold this alignment tool. Some posts on the forum about it.
