Order for grill and hood mounting.
« on: September 08, 2024, 11:08:46 »
Soon my completely overhauled engine will be put back in the car after nearly 6 years.  ;D
It was removed on October 24th, 2018. See picture.
The hood is painted with the car, but not mounted yet to give enough space to mount the engine.
I can understand that fitting of the grill will be not easy when the radiator is on its place.
But somewhere I read that it is easier to leave the grill out, to make it easier to reach the hinges of the hood.
Just a simple question for the ones with experience; what is better, first fit the grill or first fit the hood and afterwards the grill?

Again something else.

hi
the last time i did the radiator (from below) then hood first then grille.

that way you can access the hood hinge bolts to fine tune the hood alignment.
i used some plastic wedges around the hood to get the hood gap just right then tightened.

this makes it tricky to access the grill screws but it can be done.

i cannot remember if its possible to not bolt the radiator in position just get it in place an leave it resting on the floor
then get the grill situated then bolt up the radiator.

to hold the radiator up you can either put some blocks under it to hold it up or have a friend lay on their back and push the radiator up into place.

extra hands always helps
