(No subject)automatic gear box
« on: October 09, 2024, 12:47:04 »
Hello i have an issue with my rebuilt automatic engine and gearbox on my 1970 280 sl.
In the morning when it is cold, it does not shift right. After driving it for about a quarter of a mile, it warms up and is fine. However. When it is warm, it will not engage in park. When it is cold it clicks into park just fine. This is a real puzzle. Has anyone had similar issues? I would appreciate any input anyone might have

Check if you have enough ATF (automatic transmission fluid)... https://www.sl113.org/wiki/Automatic/Start
1970 280SL. System Admin of the site. Please do not mail or PM me questions on Pagoda's... I'm not likely to know the answer.  Please post on the forum instead!

Not engaging in park can only be a linkage issue; the hydraulics have no bearing on the park mechanism.
Check your linkage adjsutment.

yes it has.

Ok, however:
1. Have you done it in a proper way? (warm, engine running, etc.)
2. What was the condition of the fluid? (nice and reddish, no burnt smell etc.)

Someone experience told me: many shifting issues are solved when you check and if necessary change the fluid and the filter.

Then the linkage adjustment, as advised already.
