Hi all,

I've read a lot of people discussing the knob for the heater fan and the small fiber optic element in it.
I've also read about the small circlip on the back of the knob.

While my knob functions and turns the fan on and up, it can just be slid off.
It does have the circlip on the back of it but I am guessing it ought to be held in to the small chrome ring on the dashboard by the circlip being behind the chrome ring.

The chrome ring appears to have 4 holes at the compass points for grub screws (though I think only 2 are present on mine) However loosening these does nothing and I am disinclined to try and pry the ring off without knowing if this is the right thing to do!

Does anyone know if the chrome ring (see image) should come away from the metal strip behind it?
Thanks,
Rich

Also the knob for me simply has a hole at the end for the light from the filament to come through. Should there actually be a tiny red lens at the end of the knob? I believe some have said this should light up red?
Thanks,
Rich

The outer chrome ring spins off in exactly the same way as the chrome ring around the headlight switch.

I usually use a very thin punch in one of the holes on the side you speak of and tap it gently in the direction required (anti clockwise to undo). Pretty sure some on here have fashioned up a tool by bending tweezers to a right angle to grab two holes and spin it undone.

Have a search for headlight switch removal and you may find something.

In regards to red over the end of the optic fibre, my 66 is clear and tbh is barely visible.

Thankyou! That worked perfectly and foir the first time since I bought the car a year ago the knob doesn’t come off and works correctly - Glad I didn’t try to pry it off 😂
Thanks,
Rich
