Brake disc not centered in caliper
« on: December 30, 2024, 21:12:40 »
Hello,

After a rear axle revision, the brake disc of my rear axle is not centered in the middle of the caliper.

See picture. On the right side I measure 0.8 mm and on the left side the gap is 3.5 mm. In fact the caliper should be 1.35 mm more outwards to align the disc in the middle.
This might have been the case already before my axle revision.
Or did I make a mistake while assembling the axle? Should the axle be 1,35 mm more in the differential?

In the BBB I can find so called Ausgleichscheiben (spacers No 2) of 0,5 and 0,75 mm. (Part No's 112 421 1452 and 112 421 1552)
If I combine these two spacers the disc will be right in the middle.

My question is, is this an acceptable solution or do I have to take the axle shaft out again?

Sens,

Besides rubber bushing for the axle, and brake pads, what other parts were replaced?  How about just removed and refitted?

Hello!

I took the complete rear end out and replaced every rubber, bushing and wheel bearings.
Cleaned and painted, I assembled the rear end.

So maybe the bearing is not far enough on the axle and maybe the bearing is not far enough in the axle tube.
In total 1.5 mm.

Do you think I'd better remove and reassemble or solve the problem by using the spacers?

It's my philosophy to fix the root problem, not to apply a workaround.

Yes, I fully agree!!

I already have the bearing puller in house.
Will do the job today or tomorrow.

Don't mask a problem, solve it!

Happy New Year!
