Old brake calipers worth anything?
« on: January 18, 2025, 14:50:45 »
I was cleaning out my garage and found a pair of Cardone brake calipers from my '71 that I changed out about 5 years ago.  Are they worth anything, or should I drop them off at my local recycling center?

Thanks

They are not Cardone calipers.  Cardone rebuilds calipers so they are probably Ate.  They are worth at least the core charge for rebuilding around $40-50. Post them in the for sale forum with pictures.

Thanks for the quick reply and advice.  I should have worded my post better as the old calipers were replaced with Cardone and in the Cardone box.

Will post the old ones today.  Are ATE the original caliper mfr?

Like you I have a set of old calipers from installing new ones some years ago. Rebuild sets (seals, pistons if needed) are no doubt available so your post now prompted me to decide to rebuild mine, just for fun and to have backup for the future.
If you would offer them to a rebuilder I think you would get some nominal amount for them, say $15-20 each would be my SWAG.

Yes Ate was the original supplier.

Thank you all for the feedback and advice.  Am considering rebuilding them and using stainless pistons, if available?

I would inspect the current pistons first; if they are in good condition, no need to replace. If they have rust/other damage, then yes I would replace with good quality new. Not sure whether stainless is necessary or the best material.

Roadster, where in Richmond do you live. Send me a message we could get together sometime. There is a shop (Richmond Car Museum) that has 5 Pagodas sitting g for various repairs. Nice place to know. Bob

I had stainless steel pistons made for my 3-piston Girling calipers, so it can be done.
