inching ever closer to completeness, thanks for the tip Bob. no one will ever see these, nor will they understand the satisfaction of finding these and putting them on... but thats not why we do it, is it?

The part number is 0009973320.  Two survived in my car, so I needed another set.  Unlike the others pictured mine were not opaque but rather black.  I purchased them from George at Authentic Classics.  Around $3.50/plug.

I am afraid the white/clear/white-ish caps in question do not have any part number as they came together with the seat frame, as part of it.

Part number A0009973320 is a rubber plug 11mm used in our cars (as well as in many other cars, also today) in a couple of places, e.g. to plug holes in the floor, rear part, but not for the seats.

All 4  are missing on my 280SL. (In garage)
It is 8 degrees so I cannot see if my 250SL is missing them.( Outside)

Rodd, you are correct, is someone made them up there will be a ton of them ordered.

They were clear.

I received mine and they fit perfectly and quite snug with no modifications.
