Dos anyone know the color codes for dark grey for my 280 SL 1969 ?

My mechanic says it is 756, but it is silver, and I want it in dark grey.

okey, and what was the interior?

This winter I will restore it, and change the color from white to anthracite 172.

My plan is wine red leather, red carpets, and black soft top, but I don´t know if that is original??

Technically speaking, you mean "original-looking", right? To be considered "original" you'd have to go with the color codes stamped on your data plate or on your data card from MB.

According to Laurence Meredith's "Original Mercedes SL...The Restorer's Guide", the 280SL could have a red (#3000) or light red (#3001) interior but not "wine". You could get wine red (#1087) in a 230/250SL, though but only in leather not MB Tex. I have heard that this book is not always 100% accurate but still a good guide. I would purchase one before making a descision you arent happy with in the long run. Copies show up on eBay regularly. Also, check out the "search" tool on this site and different interior specialsts like worlduph.com.

BTW, you know you are looking at big $$$ to change exterior and interior colors completely, right?

Yes I know it is big $$$$ to change the exterior and interior colors completely, but it I think it is necessary, now it is white with white interior.
I bought it in February in NC USA, and the paintjob is very bad, it need a full paint anyway, and the carpets is damaged by the sun, and there is a hole in the front seat.

To be considered "original" you'd have to go with the color codes stamped on your data plate or on your data card from MB.

Actually, this would also be original looking as original is the way it came out the factory.

I am stripping to metal now and will paint it DB 172 metallic anthracite.  Actually, having a section sprayed DB 172 and another section sprayed the metallic blue in order to finalize the decision, but I imagine the DB 172 will show well.  Keeping the interior black.
