Hello All,
I have owned my 113 for about 1 year. When I first bought it ran extremely poorly. Top speed 50 MPH, and idled at 3,000 RPM. I have not started it since then but have rebuilt distributor, new plugs, points, coil, resistor, plug wires, ignition wires, replaced incorrect and bent fuel linkage rods, hooked the wires back on for the cold start circuit, adjusted the valves, etc. From what I have removed or repaired, it is amazing the car ever ran.
Tonight I tried to start it for the first time since doing all the work. I dumped a can of drygas in the tank. I set it up per the haynes manual, I.E. adjusted the timing mark to 2 Deg. B center, and adjusted the distributor to get the timing light to just light. I then tried to start the car. I could smell gas but there was no attempt to run. I then tried a little starting ether into the intake with the throttle 1/3 open. I did get some back fires through the exhaust. I ran out of time tonight.
Any advice? I think if the distributor was 180deg off it would back fire through the intake...is that assumption correct?
I will appreciate any help as I am desperately trying to take it to the Athens car show Sunday, June 22.
