Ever see one of these?
« on: October 02, 2005, 21:02:20 »
Bought me a new toy to go along with my red 280sl that I should receive this week.  Total restoration.  Anyway, 2003 Brabus Mercedes sl55 k8 package. Former Brabus of North America show car.  550 horsepower.  Wickedly fast.  HAS ANYONE EVER SEEN THIS CAR OR ANOTHER ONE LIKE IT??? JUST CURIOUS!!!

I had the opportunity to do the AMG challenge graduate course this summer.  Was able to spend quite a bit of track time at Lime Rock in several amg cars.  There was an slr there but only a few of us were lapped in it.  The sl 55 is a nice car and they even had an sl 65 on site.  I found the e55 the best of the amg cars.  The sl felt heavy and boaty with a heavy front end, the accelrattion cornering etc seemed better in the e.  The cls55 also was nice but a bit heavy.  The normally aspirated amgs (CLK 55 slk55 c55) were anemic when you go from the supercharged engines.  I have no need for anymore horsepower than an e55, it was a blast!!

Hello Bob,

I wish! This car is way out of my league. Maybe on the "toy list" if I ever win the Super Lottery!

The SLR was being prepped at the local dealer for delivery. I suspect that the monthy insurance bill on it is more than my house mortgage!

I have decided to sell it.  It is to much car for me.  I luckily bought it for a real decent price (imho) I am going to take it to the Riverside highline auction on  Oct.13th.  I am connected to a used car dealership because I do the flooring financing for them.  Anyway, the story on this car is that it was owned by middle eastern royalty (oil money).  The owner spent $130k for the car and then put $204k into it.  Brabus of North America used it as their show car. (paid the owner for the use) Has a 17k paint job that goes from blue to purple depending on the light.  The body is mostly carbon fiber.  When I was considering keeping it, I went to the radio manual to see how to figure out how to work it.  Just that manual was 1/2 thick.  All the other manuals ad up to about 4 inches thick.  Has more gadgets than I have ever seen.  That is when I decided that it has to go.  JUST WAY TO MUCH CAR FOR ME!! Also when I drive it, I have the urge constantly to put my foot into it.  I know I will end up in trouble if I drive it very much.  Also if something happened to it, a heart attack would be very likely!! Its gonna go!!  I think I can get around $150k because of its uniqueness!! And amenities! It is extremely rare!!
