Anyone seen the newest Hemmings?

The Pagoda is supposed to be on the cover and this group is supposed to be mentioned in it.

I haven't seen it yet, but was hoping someone else may have?

Whoever gave you that story was jerk'in your chain. The August 2005 issue does have a very small photo of a 1957 300SL Roadster on the cover but it is by no means the cover's feature car. As for mention of our group, I breezed through the issue and saw no indication of an article that would likely mention the group. There is a lot of fine print in that rag, as I'm sure you know.

I also checked that glossy cousin, Hemming's Classic Cars, but no Pagoda there either.

I did happen to notice a small color photo of my 356C on page 600, however. There are lots of much better photos of it at www.motoringinvestments.com

There's an image of a signal red Pagoda SL on the cover of the issue pictured.

(I also exchanged e-mail with an Editor over there who wanted details about the group for an article. He said they're compiling a Buyer's Guide that will mention the related clubs.)

Sounds like I spoke too soon  :? . I figured this being July that the August issue would be the current one. Now that I think about it, Hemmings purposely mails to subscribers well before they hit the newsstand, making a subscription more enticing for someone reading a book full of classified ads.

That's cool that they are interested in our group for a future article. Keep us posted on your progress with that, Doug.

That's why it is on their web site .. it is the latest issue and if you click on it and fill out the form, you get it for free as a sample issue.

It is indeed the September issue, and it was waiting in the mailbox when I got back from Blacklick. They even gave the sl113 group a mention as a contact!! I have not had the chance to read the article, but that will change soon.

It's out and it's very, very good. The editor was true to his word and prominently mentioned this group along with the MBCA. Highly recommended reading!

Hello everyone...Sitting here in oston after a long afternoon spent inspecting a '64 230SL for my possible purchase, but that's another post, altogether...

he car that you are referring to here lives in Atlanta. I spoke to the owner at the beginning of July and heard all about it. I have yet to see it in person, but i can assure you all that when i return home from this adventure of mine in Boston, I'll be back in touch with him.

The Pagoda in question is also currently available in the SL-Class listings at www.ebaymotors.com. Starting Bid is at $15,900.00 and as of this morningbefore my flight, there had been no bids placed on this one.
it's been listed a couple of times and i don't have any idea why the bids haven't gone higher than they have or why not much activity.Maybe someone can help him get some more interest there?

The article is indeed quite good, but I wondered about this sentence:  "[Ray] Paul says the pagoda series ..., for driving purposes, are much more practical than the older 230SLs."  Aside from the error of applying the pagoda description to only the 280SL, what does this mean?  My 230SL bias may be showing, but I would think that a slightly simpler model with no smog gadgetry would be the easiest to tune and keep running well.

 I am sure , knowing Ray Paul, that this has been a mistake by the publisher.  I believe Ray would be referring to, and comparing,  the predecessor 190sl/121 chassis to the 113 chassis,.. not comparing a 230 to a 250/280.. he is a 113 guy....

I should have thought of that.  The sentence I quoted does make sense if one just substitutes "190SL" for "230SL".  Thanks, Arthur.

 The writer probably doesn't know a 190 from a 450.....
