Are 1970 280SL hubcaps the same as others from that period that may have been installed on other models from the 60's and 70's?

Thank you,

Jeff 1970 280SL 4 speed

If you are talking about the one piece hub-caps for the 14 inch wheels the answer is yes. A little background regarding that change will help you identify some differences in the metals and make up of the newer one piece hub-caps from the early one piece hub-caps.
Starting with the 250SL last production run in late 1967 the polished center and small hub cab were replaced with a different wheel with a 110 or 111 part number. These wheels did not share the three small locking pins in the center like the early 230SL  to clip the small hub-cap in place and were replaced with a steel one peice polished chromium cap with centers painted to match the hard top of the SL.
By 1970 as production wound down and cost cutting started the steel chromium hub-caps became stainless brushed looking almost dull.
If you take a magnet to one of these hub-caps its a sure bet to tell if it is a late or early style. Fining old hub-caps in nice reasonable condition and sending them out to a polisher and then to the paint shop is the best way to give you car a new fresh factory appearance.
