steering wheel angle
« on: November 15, 2005, 21:49:28 »
my steering wheel is not at a right angle to the car body.  I presume that its plane should be parallel to the dash, my shoulders, etc. but it is not.  It angles toward the left mirror.  there is no play in the wheel and the angle from waist toward mirror (tilt away from driver) seems normal.  Ideas?

thanks

Worry not. It sounds like your steering wheel is slightly angled, just as they all are. It was done to facilitate ingress and egress from the vehicle.

Just one of those slightly strange details that help make these cars so unique.

Enjoy.

Interesting insights, Ed. Thanks.

Bjudd - mine is exactly the same except it angles to the right mirror since my car is a RHD. I have always thought that it needed an adjustment of some sort.  Was gonna post the same question but never got around to it yet.  Well, sounds like it's normal, which is good news...

It also serves as a thrust break-away angle for frontal collision
in conjunction with crumple zone geometics..
