Does anyone have or know about a tonneau cover or cockpit cover for either a '67 250SL or '69 280SL? I saw one in a photo and it looked interesting, wondering how practical or useful any of you have found them. Seems like a good idea for when you are cruising topless and stop for lunch and you don't want the hassle of putting up the top!

Hey John, there was a thread back a few pages ago on "Cockpit covers" (started by Jim V). See if it answers your questions!

Keesing -- If you follow the link Rodd posted it will take you to what I believe are some terrific cockpit covers.  Mine fits a 71 280SL just right...and it's in matching red.  Notice they also have a bright yellow available.  I'd think that might be pretty nice with your "tweety bird yellow".

In the previous thread on cockpit covers there was a link to one for sale on e-bay.  I found the item sells new, in your choice of colors, for $79.  The used one sold to a poacher for $82.45. Hope he's happy.  :)

Well, I was one click away from one like TR's the other night... then I couldn't decide on a color! Since I have a white/blue car I narrowed it down to gray or blue. Problem is, the gray may look a little washed out -- and the blue struck me as too bright and cheesy. Anyone want to make up my mind?

James -- Given the choices from that particular vendor I think my vote would be the taupe color for your white car.  I don't think you would see any of the blue interior when the cover is strapped in place.  The grey looked good on Tom's tunis beige car.

BTW, my red WeatherShield cover ($79.15) squeezes down small enough that I can stow it in a zip-lock bag, ~9x9x1".

Naj,

Where would one get the UK design tonneau that you had some pictures of?  And how much is it?

Thanks,
Danny

Hi, Danny,

I've seen two of these, first design copied by the second owner (pictured). Both were made by their respective 'local' trimmers.

In the second case, he used the original soft top material. Don't know exact cost (too afraid to ask   )
