« on: December 30, 2005, 15:53:02 »
Took My 69 280SL Auto Tranny out today.  Was cruising along fine when all of the sudden it did two things at the same time..

[:(!]The tranny popped out of gear, and the Speedometer stopped working.

Pulled off, did'nt see any thing damage..

:?: Now it shifts up into 3rd, but won't go into 4th. and Speedo still not working..

Any help??
Thanks

Hello Jeff,
The fact that your speedometer quit working probably means something may have happened in the rear section of the transmission where the governor, and rear pump are located. The speedometer drive gear is also located here.

Drain the fluid and remove the transmission oil pan and see if you find any debris or parts in the pan to start with.
