body work
« on: January 05, 2006, 16:06:39 »
I am in the process of restoring a very early 230 sl sn 1207 uropean delivered in Italy.  I have been very carefull with the headlight notches but in the stripping process they were touched not removed.  Want to make sure they are very close as close to perfect as possible does anyone have any reference points or great pictures to confirm and ferify location and size.  Thank you

Run a search on the phrase "headlight notches" and you'll see a long thread about this very subject. There's a very nice link to a photo from the motoringinvestments.com site that I particularly liked.

Here is a shot of my original headlight notches that might also help.  Good luck.

I can't confirm the size, but the location should line up with the notch in the headlight chrome trim.

All three photos show them inboard on each fender.  There's a notch on the outside too, right? -CTH

The notch on the outboard side is actually the body seam that runs the length of the car.

I agree with rwmastel. The length is 3.5 cm fading out at around 3 cm.I have the measurement from my car which was all original when I restored her in 2004.
Best of luck
