Hello Erick,

The "05" camshaft was used in the 280 series W114 sedans. It will work fine in an SL as long as the Main journals are the same diameter as your original cam otherwise you will need to switch these also.

It is not as "hot" as an SL camshaft so you would loose some HP. This camshaft was made with an "improved material" and replaced the "01" camshaft. The "11" and "86" were sedan camshafts which were a little "hotter" than the "05".  The "08" and "04" would be the worst sedan camshaft to use.

Hello,
Do you guys know which camshaft was the same in both sedans and W113 cars of the era?

The same #11 or #86 was used in 250SLs and sedans of the era. The sedans were some of the finback 230S (W111), and the 250S, SE (W108).

These are a nice find since they are second hottest camshafts. The 230SL camshafts #76 and #84 and the early or euro cam for the 280SL #02 and #09 all had the longest "total valve open duration" (142 degrees) and yielded the best performance in their particular engine series.

Hello Erick,

It would work fine for a spare, you may loose a few horse power.
