Replacement Head '65 230SL
« on: February 05, 2013, 10:38:15 »
Stuart White from Queensland in Australia is looking for a replacement head for his '65 230sl.

The existing head on his car is a 127 016 1901.  Joe, (JA17)  I think you gave me some alternatives that could possibly fit when I was also looking to replace my head on my '65. I have lost that data.  Can you or any one else provide the numbers of suitable alternative 230 or 250 heads from either SL's or sedans?

Thanks
Garry

Joe's table is here:

http://www.sl113.org/wiki/Engine/CylinderHead

Any of the first 6 should work, 127 010 42 20, 127 016 19 03, 127 016 18 01, 127 016 19 01, 129 016 03 01, 129 016 08 01.

I guess when transplanting a 129 250SE/SL head on a 230, the stated compression ratio of 9,5:1 would be slightly reduced. Anyone know if that's right?

The head from a 250se M129 engine will fit with no modification.
Uses the same gasket also.

The head you select should be complete with valve train and cam. the valves, springs ball studs and many other parts will not interchange from 230 to 250 heads. The complete assembly will.
