two white rockets
« on: January 09, 2006, 19:20:13 »
Hello to all - - I hope you enjoy this photo.   It was taken where I work, at the NASA-Ames Research Center in Calif. That is the actual 3/5th scale wind tunnel test model that was used to validate the design of the Space Shuttle back in the late 70's.  The enormous eight story structure in the background is one of the exterior walls of the wind tunnel.  Regards, Larry in CA

Hi Larry,
Like the one (a '68?) on <<this>> side of the fence much more than the one behind. 1st one is much more beautiful, not as complicated to handle, easier to maintain.
Best,

I thought I recognized the photo location.  I worked at AMES in 1973-1974.  I lived in Santa Cruz and made the commute.  I was running the boiler plant that generated vacuum for test chambers.  The scientists were testing the tiles for the shuttle at the time.  It was a cool place to work, but the gas crisis finally caused me to move on.

I agree with achim. The vehicle up front would be my choice as well :) I believe the percentage increase in resale value will be much higher in the little one than the big white one in the back :)
Cheers,
