I noted that the burled "chrome" under the heater lever has cracked, cannot imagine that this is replacable suspect it can be glued.  Is there any support under this area to gorilla this to?  I suspect it was broken when heater levers were replaced.

Peterm,

the 3 chrome pieces around the heater levers are removable and replacable, if you can find them.  Getting them out (in a LHD drive car) would involve removal of the glove box, radio and maybe the clock to access the 3 10 mm nuts that hold them on.  When replacing, don't overtighten the nuts, the studs are pretty easy to break.  You really wouldn't want to glue the chrome pieces to the dash, this would make heater control removal/installation impossible.
